Düzce tarih sayfasina 1950'den itibaren “IL” olarak geçme isteginde bulunmustur.

Düzce 1944 Düzce Depremi, 1957 Abant Depremi, 1967 Adapazari Depremi ve 17 Agustos Körfez Depremlerinden büyük ölçüde etkilenmistir. 12 Kasim Düzce Depremi ise sehri yerle bir etmistir.

Deprem yaralarinin daha kolay ve hizli sarilabilmesi amaciyla Bakanlar Kurulu kararinca Düzce “ Türkiye'nin 81. ILI” olmustur.
